Featured on Astronomy Picture of the Day and National Geographic News. From the photographer: "Flying on the edge of stratosphere, some 400km off the coast of Oregon above the cloud-covered Pacific Ocean, this was the view on 2017 August 21 at about 10am Eastern Time from 45000 ft high. I was on assignment for National Geographic to capture the first photographs of the eclipse before it hits the coast and then across the US. Like all other eclipses I've seen the horizon colors were amazing but this time at such a high altitude the sky became pitch black, almost felt like flying in space. Wow!"
