Flag Point Lookout

The winter night sky from the Flag Point Lookout in Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon. From the photographer: "In the rainy months of winter, wildfires are no longer a threat so fire tower lookouts are rented to the recreating public. Imagine spending a couple days in a 14x14 cabin, with windows in 360 degrees, 60 up in the air, with a walkway that wraps the entire structure. Inside, amenities are only the basics of a wood stove, bed and propane cooking stove. By nature of the lookout locations far from cities, the star gazing is first class. Stepping out from the glow of the wood stove into the cold night on the walkway and looking up into the stars can induce a gasp and vertigo. Even only 60 up, one can feel somewhat amongst the stars."
