Spectacular view of the Milky Way, towards the galactic center, rising above the Australia's most recognizable landform in silhouette. The Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park; a World Heritage Site in the Northern Territory is best known for Uluru or the Ayers Rock, a ‪‎sacred‬ site of ‪aboriginal‬ culture. About 3.6 km long, the rock is an inselberg or island mountain in geology. It extends about 5 km beneath the desert and rises 348 meters above the plain. Bright star Antares at the heart of celestial Scorpion and planet Saturn appear high in the sky. Click the constellation icon above the image to see another view taken earlier in twilight.
