A moonlit night of Mauna Kea Observatories. Located at altitude of about 4200 m over the Pacific Ocean, the Mauna Kea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, is one of the world's best observing locations, home to over a dozen giant telescopes. Here, dishes of Sub-Millimeter Array (SMA) are visible. Click on the constellation icon above the image to see another nightscape view of the observatory. The empty area in the closer foreground is cleaned and prepared for groundbreaking of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT). Tunc Tezel
