The Milky Way above in the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius (towards the galactic center) is photographed above the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the top of La Palma, 2400 meters above see level. Bright star Antares at the Scorpion's heart is on the upper right. The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC), operated by Spain, appears in the foreground. It is one of the world's largest telescopes with the aperture of 10.4 m. There are about a dozen major telescopes on this mountain including the 3.6 meter TNG (Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, belongs to Italy) appears on the left. Click on the constellation icon above the image to see a sunset closeup view of the Gran Telescopio Canarias, also known as the GranTeCan. Babak Tafreshi,
