Headless Comet By: Stephane Guisard |
Region: Americas Date: December 2011 | |||
The morning twilight approaches the Andes in Chile when the fading tail of Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3) appears above the mountains near Santiago de Chile. The bizarre comet appears almost like a headless tail. This timelapse video clip is the photographer's second attempt to catch the remaining of this space snowball; a sungrazer comet which surprisingly survived the close visit to the sun. See the first video, as well as a still image of the fading Lovejoy in the southern sky. Stephane Guisard - Astrosurf.com/sguisard
