By: Christoph Malin & Stephane Guisard

Region: Americas

Site: Atacama Desert - Chile

Date: 2011-2012

This timelapse video clip displays a collection of bright meteors and their persistent trains in the atmosphere captured over Atacama Desert in Chile and La Palma, Canary Islands. Meteor persistent train is a glowing ionized atoms because of the meteoroid encounter with the upper atmosphere. The faint smog-like cloud expands and moves away during the several minutes of continuous shots because of high altitude winds. Christoph Malin & Stephane Guisard
