Grazing Meteor above the Dolomites By: Bernd Proschold |
Region: Europe Date: August 2011 | |||

In a moonlit night of Alps in northern Italy a bright meteor grazes the sky above Dolomites. Stars of the constellation Sagittarius are about to set on the lower right. The Dolomites are a mountain range listed in the World Heritages and features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and a high density of narrow, deep and long valleys. Photographed here is the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, a famous landmark of the Dolomites. The central peak reaches a height of about 3000m above see level. This towering peak rises about 700m from the surrounding landscape. See this scene over a complete night in this time-lapse video. Bernd Proschold/Sternstunden.net
