Big Dipper and Arcturus

By: Oshin D. Zakarian

Region: Middle East

Site: Mahneshan - Iran

Date: April 2011

In this black & white image stars of the Big Dipper (the prominent asterism in constellation Ursa Major) and bright star Arcturus are captured above bizarre rock formations in the suburbs of Mahneshan (Maah-Neshaan) in Zanjan, Iran. Also note the Coma Star Cluster (easily resolved by unaided eye) right above the rocks. This place was an old mine dating back to the Second World War period. Oshin Zakarian/
