December Meteors |
Region: Middle East Date: 2010 December 14 | |||
|
Two bright meteors streak the sky near Sirius (the brightest star in the night sky) and constellation Orion. They are captured in a single 30-second exposure during the Geminid meteor shower. With its peak activity on December 13/14, Geminids make one of the best meteor showers of the year. The shower is created as planet Earth sweeps through dusty debris from extinct comet 3200 Phaethon.
