Moments with Moais By: Stephane Guisard |
Region: Australia and Pacific Site: Easter Island - Chile Date: July 2010 | |||
|
The Moon and Pleiades star cluster (Seven Sisters) appear above the Easter Island. Also notable in the sky is the upside-down V figure of the Bull's face in Taurus (middle) and stars of Orion (lower right). Its a bizarre experience to stand besides these giant statues which are locally called Moais. They are dated back to 13th to 15th century from the lost ancient civilization of this isolated south Pacific Ocean island. Stephane Guisard - Astrosurf.com/sguisard
