Galaxy Reflection By: Wally Pacholka |
Region: Americas Site: Mount Lassen - USA Date: July 2010 | |||
|
The summer Milky Way (as seen in the northern hemisphere) shines above Mount Lassen National Park, California. The brightest region in the entire band of the Milky Way is toward the constellation Sagittarius (right above the trees) and known as the galactic bulge which envelopes the center of the galaxy. The Milky Way's central bulge is bright enough to be seen even from not-so-dark locations and in darkest sites it can even cast shadows. Wally Pacholka/Astropics.com
