Sirius and M41

By: Oshin D. Zakarian

Region: Middle East

Site: Alborz Mountains - Iran

in this winter scene from a village in Alborz Mountains, bright star Sirius is captured over the south west. Light from a local source made rays through the trees. Note the bright star cluster M41 to the lower right of Sirius. In a starry night like this, M41 is recognizable to an unaided eye as a little faint cloud. The cluster contains about 100 stars at the distance of over 2000 light years away from us, while Sirius is in our cosmic neighborhood at the distance of 8.6 light years. Oshin Zakarian/
