Rising Scorpius and Approaching Storm By: Tunc Tezel |
Region: Middle East Site: Cape Gelidonya - Turkey Date: 2010 March 18 | |||
|
A starry seascape in Antalya province of Turkey. Constellation Scorpius with its brightest Antares rises on the left and the Summer Milky Way appears through the passing clouds. Gelidonya Lighthouse shines in the foreground before a calm Mediterranean Sea. But further to southwest (right end) the sea does not seem so calm. As noted by the photographer "After resting for some time near the lighthouse, I woke up with some flashes. Some distant storm out in the sea was coming close to show lightning flashes. As it was a 40-minute walk down to the car, I packed my stuff quickly. Then, after watching the sky for a couple
minutes, I decided I could still safely take a few pictures before
leaving. That few including this shot took nearly an hour to take. The
storm was keeping away, thankfully." Tunc Tezel
