Southern Stars above Cradle Mountain

The Southern Cross and the Two Pointers (Alpha and Beta Centauri) shine above the magnificent vista of Cradle Mountain of Tasmania, and their light are reflected in Dove Lake. This summer image of the mountain shows one of the few clear views of the mountain by night; Cradle Mountain experiences about 300 days of cloudy or rain bearing weather each year. Snow can fall on the summit of Cradle Mountain, even in mid-summer. This view is looking due south, across the still waters of Dove Lake. See this scene in a time-lapse video here. John Goldsmith
