Double Meteors above Turkey By: Tunc Tezel |
Region: Middle East Site: Mount Uludag - Turkey Date: 2009 December 14 | |||
The annual Geminid meteor shower peaks on December 13/14 and as expected, it displayed a fascinating show in 2009, the best seen Geminid shower for many sky observers. The shower is created as planet Earth sweeps through dusty debris from extinct comet Phaethon. In this single exposure from Mount Uludag, the ancient Mysian Olympus in Turkey, two meteors are captured along with prominent constellations Orion (upper right) and Canis Major (center). Tunc Tezel
