Clouds in Atamaca

By: Serge Brunier

Region: Americas

Site: Atacama Desert - Chile

In some places of the Earth clear sky is a fortune that rarely happens, but in some others like Atacama Desert, one of the driest places of the planet, clouds would be a rare scene to capture, as recorded in this image in a moonlit night of the desert. The Atacama Desert is a narrow strip of desert along the northwest coast of Chile, extends nearly 1600 km. In many areas of Atacama rainfall has never been recorded. Consequently, an extremely arid, almost barren, landscape predominates. Because of its high altitude, nearly non-existent cloud cover, and lack of light pollution, Atacama desert is one of the best places in the world to observe the night sky. Serge Brunier/
