Region: Americas

Site: La Paz - Bolivia

Date: 2003

The Moon rises above La Paz, the high altitude capital of Bolivia. Located at about 3600 m (12000 ft) above sea level it is the highest capital city in the world. La Paz is located in the valleys of the Andes, and is closer to the Eastern split of the Altiplano region. Therefore, it is close to the famous mountains such as the Mount Illimani; the Golden Eagle or Guardian of La Paz which is the second highest peak in Bolivia at peak altitude of about 6438 m).
