The Hottest City in the World

By: Jean-Luc Dauvergne

Hveragerđi, Iceland

2013 April 13

A notable photo of the 2016 International Earth & Sky Photo Contest
From the photographer: "Hveragerđi is known for all its hot springs. They use it to power the greenhouses that have lights inside all the night long. Despite the small number of inhabitants in Iceland there is a lot of light pollution because of that. The northern lights are still visible when there is a strong geomagnetic storm like this one.
Technical details: Sony 7s, 18mm @ f/4, 2sec, ISO2000"
