Ancient Rock Art and Star Trails

By: Mahdi Hosseini

Teymareh, Iran

From the photographer: "This image shows stars and other celestial objects trailing around the North Star as seen above prehistoric rock art in the remote valley of Teymareh in central Iran. The valley is full of ancient petroglyphs from 4500 to 17000 years ago. With over 30,000 engraved images, the valley is one of the world's most important petroglyph sites, still largely undiscovered. Here is the largest petroglyph, a wild goat with 120 centimeter length, belongs to 10000-14000 years ago." - Mahdi Hosseini
