Bootes over Ocean Thunderstorm

By: Fred Wasmer

Captiva Island, Florida, USA

2009 September 19

From the photographer: "Bolts of lightning illuminate an offshore thunderstorm beneath stars of the constellation Bootes. The brightest star in the scene is Arcturus. Below and to the right of Arcturus, the star trail of Muphrid, third brightest member of Bootes, nearly merges with a finger of lightning. This photo was taken on the beach of Captiva Island (lat 26.5221 north, long 82.1934 west), in the Gulf of Mexico off of Florida's west coast." - Fred Wasmer
