Moonrise above Ketchikan

By: Chip Porter

Ketchikan, Alaska, USA

From the photographer: "Ketchikan is a small town built along the rocky coast of the Inside Passage in Southeast, Alaska, it is the first "City" as you enter Alaska from the south. Once known as the salmon capital of the world and a major timber exporter, world economics and environmental concerns turned the town to tourism for support. With an average of 160 inches (4 meters) of rain a year, or nearly a half inch of rain a day, this image of a near full moon rising during evening twilight is a rare shot indeed." Chip Porter
