Pic du Midi, France

Amateur astronomers gaze at stars from Pic du Midi Observatory in the Pyrenees Mountains of France. The scenic peak at altitude of 2,877 m is famous for its astronomical observatory, part of the Midi-Pyrénées Observatory. There are several instruments on the site, including: coronagraph HACO-CLIMSO, 55 cm and 60 cm telescopes, the 106 cm telescope dedicated to observations of Solar System, and the 2 meter Bernard Lyot Telescope. The observatory is located at 42°56′N and 0°8′E placing it very close to the Greenwich meridian. Patrick Lécureuil
