Cordoba Evening

Cordoba, Spain

Venus and the Moon shine in the evening sky of Cordoba, Spain. Located in the heart of Cordoba World Heritage Site is the Mezquita (Spanish for "mosque"), notable in the foreground. Primarily, the site had borne a temple, then in about 600AD a Christian cathedral. Under the rule of Islam, Mezquita was built as the second-largest mosque in the world, and is perhaps the most accomplished monument of the Umayyad dynasty of Cordoba. After the Spanish Reconquista, it was transformed into a church, and partly the Islamic columns and arcs were replaced by a basilica in early Baroque style. Today it houses the main church of the diocese of Cordoba in Spain. Paco Bellido.
