Above It All
From the photographer: "This was shot on a ridge overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The fog was coming in from the coast and it was thin enough to let some of the light pollution shine through from below. The bright orange lights are road lights, and the white light near the horizon is a well known highway named Pacific Coast Highway. The fog acted as a barrier allowing the Milky Way to shine above. While not as bright as some darker areas, this is part of Los Angeles County with downtown Los Angeles only 25 miles away. While this shows a beautiful take on light pollution, it also shows the beauty of the night sky when conditions are ideal.
