Village at the Center of the Milky Way

From the photographer: Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen nature park in the Austrian Alps. Of course, the center of our galaxy is some 27,000 light years away, and it is hidden by dense interstellar clouds. The sky over village Greith, located in the Seetal Alps at 1100 meters above sea level, is clear and dark. With everyone in the village asleep, the only artificial light comes from the grave candles in the cemetery which surrounds the church, illuminating the walls of the church with a reddish light. Low at the horizon, some yellowish light from distant cities is visible."
