The Forgotten Giant

From the photographer: this telescope is just amazing. The project started in 1909 and planned to be the biggest telescope in the Southern hemisphere. For many reasons it was delayed and begin observation a long time after in 1942, but it was still the biggest in the south with its 1.54m mirror. It stayed the biggest up to the construction of the 1.9m in South Africa in 1951. After the crisis in 2003 it was abandoned. But since a few years the giant is back again due to the effort of two people, and now it's used for many programs from research to student training.
